Thirty-five years sharing the La Maddalena Archipelago
There are places you visit once in a lifetime, and others that become part of who you are. For us, the La Maddalena Archipelago is the sea we grew up on, the landscape that shapes every day, and the place we have had the privilege of sharing with thousands of visitors from around the world for more than thirty-five years.
Family Sea was born from a genuine passion. It is a story of the sea, of family, and of people who chose to turn their deep knowledge of this territory into something worth sharing with those who want to experience it for real.
A story that began in 1990
Some stories start with a business idea. Ours started with the sea.
In 1990, Mario left the Italian Navy to do what he knew best: sail. With a small private boat, the Bengar, he began taking the first visitors between Budelli, Spargi, Santa Maria and the other islands of the National Park.
There were no booking platforms or online reviews then, just word of mouth, from people who went home with the memory of a day well spent. That word of mouth is what made Family Sea grow, season after season.
Anna, Debora and Sara picked up where their father left off, each bringing new skills to the same passion that started it all: hospitality, reliability and a deep love for this corner of Sardinia.

Mario's first private boat, used to take the earliest visitors out to the islands.

Born from the motor vessel Babilonia, later renamed.

More modern and refined, the result of a restoration project led by Anna.

Launched in 2025, for a smoother and more comfortable day at sea.
The crew with you every day
At the helm is Francesco, our captain, who knows every cove, every seabed and every corner of the La Maddalena Archipelago. Working alongside him are qualified sailors, crew trained to STCW standards, a multilingual tour guide, bar staff and galley crew.
Mario
Founder. In 1990 he left the Italian Navy to sail the sea he knew better than anyone.
Anna
Owner and operator. She manages Gite in Barca's communications and tells the story of the archipelago online.
Debora
Owner and operator. She grew up on the docks of Palau, carrying forward the same care Mario passed on.
Sara
Owner and operator. She shares the running of Family Sea with her sisters and keeps a close eye on every detail on board.
Francesco
Captain. He knows every cove and every seabed in the archipelago and personally oversees the vessel's maintenance.
Alexandro
Tour guide. Originally from Perugia, he takes guests through the history and curiosities of the islands in four languages.
Antonino
Chief mate. From Sicily, he handles manoeuvring and safety aboard Lady Luna 3.
Marcello
Sailor and engineer. He takes care of the boat's technical systems before every departure.
Unai Alonso
Second mate. Originally from Spain, he works alongside Antonino on navigation.
Daniele
Deckhand. Grew up in southern Sardinia and knows the archipelago like few others.
Fabrizio
Crew member. Also from southern Sardinia, he has been with us for several years.
Federico
Tender operator. The youngest member of the crew, he takes guests to the archipelago's beaches.
Sara
Guest services. With us for more than five years, she is often the first person you'll meet on board.
Gabriele
Guest reception. The person to turn to for any information before departure.
Nina
Bar. Ready with a coffee or a cold drink throughout the excursion.
Pierpaolo
Ship's cook. He prepares the meals served during the day at sea.
We look after the sea, even when the season is over
The excursion season runs from May to October, but our work goes on year-round.
Off season
When Lady Luna comes back to port, the maintenance work begins, along with preparations for the season ahead. We update our services, organise every detail and work to make every trip a little better and safer than the last.
Every day, at sea
We bring the same care to the National Park of the La Maddalena Archipelago. On board we use compostable crockery, encourage recycling and ask our guests for small acts of respect, like leaving the sand on the beach before climbing back on board.
